We thought we’d sneak in another quick trip to Lyon before all this Euro 2016 nonsense starts.  Here are some highlights. . .

The New Doctor

After much speculation, the twelfth Doctor has been revealed – Peter Capaldi.

I think he might be even better than David Tennant.

Fuckity-bye! 😀

In an effort to improve our French, we watched Harry Potter et la Chambre des Secrets.  I’m not sure how much it helped us as far as making water cooler conversation is concerned, but we did learn a few fun facts:

  • Hufflepuff is called Poufsouffle.
  • Severus Snape is Severus Rogue.
  • Slytherin is Serpentard.
  • Tom Marvolo Riddle becomes  Tom Elvis Jedusor.  Yes, Voldemort is Elvis.
  • Nearly Headless Nick is the quite literal Nick Quasi-Sans-Tête.

We also learned a bit about our maturity levels, as we began referring to one another with the insults “you poufsouffle!” and “you serpentard!”  Some things never change.  🙂

Yesterday we saw Harry Potter The Exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum.  Those centaurs are horrific, and honestly, there are things you should never have to see up close. . .like Aragog!  We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves though. 😀

The Sydney Film Festival is on at the moment, and as part of it, tonight we saw The Guard. You can’t beat a good Irish romp, and this was a particularly funny one.

Before the film we popped by Rockpool Bar and Grill for some noms.  Good food, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that they make a mean Sazerac!

All in all, we had a great Saturday night out. I really like wandering around being contemptuous with Precious.  🙂

More Potter Fun

Buzzfeed has posted a Sorting Hat Internet Quiz.  Scott and I are both destined for Ravenclaw!  😀

Tonight we had some delicious food at New Shanghai and followed by seeing the new Harry Potter.  Superb!! Great film and a fab night.

Now it’s time for bed … 🙂 🙂

500ml ale
Yolks from 2 medium eggs, whisked
60g sugar
Dash of nutmeg
15g unsalted butter

Pour the ale into a pan over medium heat. Before the beer boils, take off the heat and add the egg yolks, sugar and nutmeg.  Return the pot to low heat (to stop the eggs from scrambling), and stir for 2 minutes. Whisk in the butter.

From Heston Blumenthal’s Tudor Feast.

We get eight DVDs per month from Quickflix.  I manage our queue of (generally speaking) around fifty films.  Normally when say number 3 and number 15 disappear from the list, I can guess what films are coming before the site updates (which takes a few hours) because I’m the one who chose to put them in the queue in the first place.  Today we’re getting a film that I’ve never even heard of before.  I have no idea when I put it in the queue or why, but I have no recollection of doing so.  None.  Whatsoever.

Seems a bit too soon for old age, doesn’t it?
